Get Your Child Started with Phono-Graphix

Step One: Find a Phono-Graphix practitioner in your area

Certified Phono-Graphix practitioners can be found throughout the English-speaking world - the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries. Can't find a practitioner in your area? We can help!

Step Two: Testing

Your therapist will invite you to sit in on your child's testing. Four Phono-Graphix tests will be administered.

  1. Segmenting: measures your child's ability to separate the sounds in words
  2. Blending: measures your child's ability to blend individual sounds into words
  3. Phoneme Manipulation: measures the ability to move sounds in and out of words, an essential skill to master reading and writing the English language
  4. Code Knowledge: measures explicit knowledge of the English language code

In addition to these tests, your therapist may administer a series of standardized reading tests to measure your child's ability to read real and nonsense words

Step Three: Instructional Plan

From the testing results, your therapist will identify your child's needs and create an instructional plan for how often to meet and how long remediation might take. Your therapist may recommend weekly or biweekly sessions. Remediation time to grade level is often achieved in only twelve to eighteen weeks of instruction. Or, you and your therapist might choose an intensive program, where instruction is completed in one or two weeks.

Phono-Graphix instruction incorporates lessons using real literature, for immediate application of the skills and strategies and to foster a love of reading. Your therapist may recommend extended therapy to focus on this or a course of Language Wise alongside Phono-Graphix, to work on comprehension, vocabulary, critical thinking and other language skills.

In our clinical studies of Phono-Graphix, remediation time to grade level is often achieved in only twelve hours of instruction. Average gains are just over two years in real word reading and four years in language decoding. The shortest time in which a client was remediated was six hours, and the longest time was 36 hours.

Step Four: Parental support

If you enroll your child in Phono-Graphix therapy, we highly recommend your order one or more parent support books. This will give you the materials you need to support your child's Phono-Graphix therapy at home, between sessions with the therapist, and leave you with lots of extra worksheets for continued practice after therapy is completed. We also encourage you to sit in on sessions regularly so you understand the process of Phono-Graphix remediation.

Phono-Graphix for Parents

Parents can become certified Phono-Graphix Therapists too. Many of our trainees are not clinical practitioners but parents who choose to take our online certification course and practice the Phono-Graphix reading method in their own homes. But don't worry, you won't be alone! We are happy to consult with you online via Skype or JoinMe regarding your child's test scores or progress.
